Job Description Position Overview The Senior Director, Accounting – Business Unit Controller is a senior member of the accounting leadership team and the Siding & Accessories business unit leadership team, reporting directly to the Vice President, US Controller. The position is responsible for the business unit’s accounting and reporting in coordination with established corporate direction. The position will partner with corporate accounting, business unit leadership, including the business unit FP&A organization, the global shared service organization, as well as internal audit, tax, and other groups. Maintaining the integrity of and improving upon the underlying related accounting processes is key. The candidate must be capable of driving significant process improvement in a challenging environment and possess an in‑depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP. The candidate must have a high detail orientation and the ability to drive efficiencies throughout the business unit accounting function. They will safeguard the control environment and guide the accounting organization that consistently delivers high quality financial data to key stakeholders in a timely fashion. Primary Responsibilities Oversees the day-to-day aspects of the accounting and control functions of the business unit working closely with the business unit FP&A team. Support the business unit organization to drive value and improve results. Responsible for managing the business units monthly close and reporting. Drive improvement in standard costing and manufacturing accounting practices, including centralizing key processes. Proactively works with and communicates with the business unit management, including FP&A, to achieve the business unit’s objectives. Will be a key member of the business unit leadership team. Ensure consistent implementation of the Company’s accounting policies, with particular attention to areas requiring judgement and estimation. Resolve identified accounting issues in a manner consistent with the Company-wide policies. Actively participate in the “non‑routine transactions” process. Coordinate resolution of technical accounting issues, as supported by external reporting. Work with the independent accountants in coordination with the corporate controller and external reporting organization. Interpret, implement, and monitor corporate and business unit accounting policies, including the implementation of new accounting principles as guided by corporate. Work with corporate, IT and others to integrate acquisitions and divestitures. Actively engage in and help to successfully implement business unit system implementations. Hiring, training, and retaining skilled staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ideal Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline is required. A graduate degree is a plus. A CPA designation is highly preferred, with fluency in technical accounting and oversight. 8 years of accounting, controls, and financial reporting experience in a large, complex, manufacturing company. Experienced leading a decentralized accounting function. Previous controller or assistant controller experience. National public accounting firm experience. A proven history of establishing, documenting, and implementing well‑defined accounting and control procedures, policies, and processes. Proven experience implementing systems is preferred. Strong business acumen and broad experience in financial reporting. Significant experience with U.S. GAAP. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task. Ability to manage to a plan. Strong academic credentials, including a degree in accounting. Business Partner – Well-developed business acumen and an ability to effectively influence decision‑making by drawing on analysis and insight. Skilled at balancing the need to be collaborative with the need to be assertive and directive. Develops a deep commercial knowledge of key business drivers and builds relationships across the enterprise, appropriately balancing business objectives and accounting rules when making judgments on complex accounting treatments. Further integrates the function and brings added rigor and engagement to the close and financial reporting activities. Leadership and Influencing – Highly developed emotional intelligence.
