Job description – Grill Cook / Food Prep Position (Full Time)

We are looking to hire either a full-time grill cook / food prep employee for our team in Sterling Heights, MI. We are a family owned and operated wholesale kitchen looking to fill a vacancy. 

OVERVIEW

Production takes place in the grill / prep room of our plant on our FDA side.  Each individual is responsible for keeping their area clean, organized, and to work well with others as a team member. Grill Cook / Prep employees are responsible for products made under FDA, MDARD, or USDA Inspection. Daily tasks will include: scrubbing, sanitizing, grilling, weighing, cutting, portioning, assembly and preparing product. Carry out primary job duties as well as other various tasks assigned according to the operational needs of the company. This job is perfect for the individual looking for a dependable routine. Working in the grill / food prep position requires  no direct communication with customers or the general public.

THE SCHEDULE (FULL TIME)

• Monday - Friday 5:30 AM - 2:30 PM (+/-1 hour depending on production volume)
• Rotating Weekend Shifts - Every other weekend. Currently Sunday shift is from 7AM – 12:00 PM

IDEAL CANDIDATE / JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Food Experience is Necessary
• Ability to thoroughly clean the grill, prep tables, and surrounding stainless steel areas / walls periodically throughout shift, and again at the end of shift.
• Keeping area clean and sanitized throughout shift. Cleaning equipment and utensils as needed throughout shift.
• Ability to use a scale for portion control.
• Comfortable using measuring tools to follow recipes.
• Daily duties include being responsible for using a flat top to grill large amounts of bread, using a convection oven, cubing cheese, and mixing / portioning ingredients based on written recipes.
• Willingness to work in production assembling sandwiches once grilling / prep production has finished.
• Maintaining records including Cooking/Cooling Logs, Production Logs, and Sanitation Preventative Control Logs.
• Able to work on their feet the entire shift, this is a production style environment.
• Speed and accuracy for counting and measuring is a must.
• Must be able to lift 50# (not continuously).
• Has reliable transportation to and from work.
• Dependable, shows up on time for each shift.
• A self-starter, able to stay organized, work as a part of a team, take direction well, and work on their own when necessary.
• Able to keep processing area, equipment and other work areas clean and organized.
• Must be okay with working in an environment where day-to-day operations are routine, and follow all government regulations and/or company set rules.
• A current ServSafe or Food Manager Certification Exam is very desirable.
• Bonus points if you enjoy Pop Culture and Movies or can tell a really good joke.
