This platform is built on scalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilities that support reusable solutions across the enterprise.The Software Engineer II (SE II) role is a fully productive, professional engineer responsible for designing, building, and delivering software solutions with independent ownership and execution accountability. This role contributes directly to platform development by building backend services, APIs, and system components that support scalable, high-performing digital experiences.Impact of the Role:Delivers scalable services and features that power Varsity Brands' digital platformImproves engineering velocity and system reliability through high-quality development practicesContributes to platform consistency, reuse, and performance across engineering teamsSupports the transition to scalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilitiesDrives adoption of shared platform capabilities through consistent, reusable service developmentWhat You Will Do:Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs aligned to platform architectureOwn end-to-end delivery of features, from design through deployment and supportTroubleshoot and resolve production issues, identifying root causes and implementing solutionsApply testing, performance optimization, and secure coding practicesContribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and system reliability improvementsCollaborate with Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver solutionsParticipate in technical design discussions and contribute to solution approachesProvide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers (including SE I)Design components and services within established architecture, making independent technical decisions within defined patternsKey Performance Indicators:Ownership and delivery of features and servicesCode quality, scalability, and performance of delivered solutionsReduction in defects and production incidentsContribution to team productivity and engineering practicesEffectiveness in cross-functional collaboration and deliveryKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:Technical Knowledge:Strong understanding of backend systems and service-based architectureWorking knowledge of cloud environments and distributed systemsUnderstanding of system design principles and data modelingTechnical Skills:Proficiency in Java and backend development frameworksAbility to:Design and build RESTful APIsOptimize system performance and scalabilityImplement testing strategies and debugging techniquesExperience working with CI/CD pipelines and production systemsCognitive & Problem-Solving Abilities:Solves moderately complex technical problems independentlyNavigates ambiguity within defined domainsDiagnoses root causes and implements effective solutionsCollaboration & Influence:Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA)Contributes to team-level improvements and engineering practicesProvides guidance and support to junior engineersExecution & Ownership:Demonstrates accountability for end-to-end delivery outcomesBalances speed, quality, and reliability in executionEducation, Certification and Experience:Required:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experiencePhysical Demands and/or Work Environment:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
