Director of Finance

A leading defense contractor in Simi Valley, CA is seeking a hybrid Director of Finance to support one of its largest business units, generating approximately $500 million in annual revenue. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role serves as a key strategic partner to the General Manager and Senior Vice President, helping drive financial performance, operational excellence, and long-term business growth.
The Director of Finance will be responsible for leading the financial strategy and decision-making process for the business unit. This includes supporting mergers and acquisitions, evaluating manufacturing costs and operational efficiencies within a high-volume production environment, assessing revenue streams across programs and contracts, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability. The role will also play a critical part in developing and executing the organization's five-year strategic plan, including current and next-generation product investments, market positioning, and long-range supplier and vendor strategies.
As the senior financial leader for the business unit, this individual will oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting principles and providing oversight of forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, and Estimates at Completion (EACs). They will lead and develop a team of 5-7 finance professionals, including Senior Finance Managers and Cost Accounting Managers, driving performance, accountability, and professional growth.
This position will also work closely with external stakeholders, including government and international customers, supporting contract and proposal negotiations while helping expand the organization's global footprint. Experience interacting with agencies such as the DCAA and DCMA is highly preferred. Quarterly travel will be required to support proposal and contract negotiations.
Compensation for this position ranges from $175,000 to $225,000 base salary, plus an annual target bonus. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (MBA/CPA preferred).
- 10+ years of finance leadership experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or government contracting.
- Experience supporting large business units with P&L responsibility and executive leadership teams.
- Strong background in FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, EACs, and strategic financial planning.
- Knowledge of GAAP, FAR/CAS, and DCAA/DCMA requirements.
- Experience evaluating contract profitability, manufacturing costs, and operational performance.
- Proven leadership managing and developing finance teams.
- Experience supporting M&A activities, proposal development, and contract negotiations.
- Ability to travel quarterly.
- Any applied experience using Hyperion and ERP System Oracle Fusion

- Experience with DoD programs and government customers.
- Background in high-volume manufacturing and supply chain finance.
- Experience supporting international business and customer negotiations.
