Job Opportunity: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Town of Front Royal is seeking Operators to join its Wastewater Treatment team! Plant operators perform responsible technical work in the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and related equipment. The Town offers a competitive salary based on experience, certifications and job performance. The entry level hiring rate for this position (no experience required) is $17.22/hourly with training and support to obtain a Class IV Operators Certification within second year of employment. The WWTP runs 24/7/365. Performs intermediate technical work operating a Wastewater Treatment Plant. Makes regular tours of plant and equipment; assists in plant operations. Monitors gauges, meters, control panels, etc. Records readings from meters and instruments. Assists in calibrating meters. Checks functions of equipment. Helps perform various tests. Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions under supervision. Collects samples of wastewater and sludge. Monitors operation of gauges, charts, equipment, and motors. Pumps sludge treatment tanks and tanker. Performs basic laboratory tests when required. Assists in writing reports. Unloads and stores chemical supplies in their proper places. Cleans and services pumps, motors, and other equipment. Helps perform routine equipment and plant monitoring maintenance. Performs minor preventive maintenance on equipment and pumps. Performs building and grounds maintenance duties. Performs related tasks as required.

Requirements include Education: High School Diploma/GED, Valid appropriate driver's license with acceptable driving history. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include general knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in WWTP maintenance and operation activities; general knowledge of safety procedures and equipment used in performing assigned work; general knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices for testing wastewater samples; ability to perform routine monitoring of plant operations and to identify and implement needed control procedures; ability to operate and maintain WWTP equipment; ability to perform process control calculations; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to keep written records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner; and work overtime if needed.

Work Environment includes being subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Physical Demands include medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
