Certified Medical Assistant

Beacon Home Care

Reports to the Practice Manager and works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Office Supervisor. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clerical and patient care duties. Responsibilities include assisting the physician in support of medical care, answering the telephone, admitting and discharging patients, and performing data entry. Responsibilities Receive and greet all patients and visitors in a professional manner and provide reasonable assistance. Receive telephone calls, take and relay messages accurately. Obtain patient information to complete the patient record for payment and computer input. Maintain patient files, charts, and records. Record medical history and prepare patients for examination. Assist physician and/or nurse with minor emergency or surgical procedures. Perform routine laboratory and EKG tests as ordered and collect specimens for the lab. Administer and record medication and injections as ordered. Interpret physician's instructions to patients and provide instruction to patients. Check and maintain supply of stock to exam rooms. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment. Schedule office or hospital procedures. Prepare procedure orders and accompanying data to send to the hospital for inpatient/outpatient studies. Arrange for hospital admissions and provide necessary information to nursing staff at the hospital. Triage patient calls to determine urgency and direct patient care. Manage and adjust medication dosage under the direction of a physician and follow up on patient compliance. Manage patient refills and ensure medications are dosed correctly and taken according to provider instructions. Preload patient information into the EMR, including diagnostic testing, health maintenance, and past surgical history. Maintain physician calendar in Outlook and coordinate that with the schedule in ProPM. Perform other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to overall effectiveness of the department. Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested. Enhance professional growth and development through in‑service meetings and educational programs. Complete other job‑related duties and projects as assigned. Organizational Responsibilities Attend and participate in department meetings and be accountable for all information shared. Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department‑specific education within established timeframes. Complete annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintain license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilize appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey process, and compliance. Comply with established organization and department policies. Be available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 17 years of age. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through successful completion of a certification exam or an approved two‑year Medical Assistant Program followed by certification. Previous medical office experience. Spanish language proficiency (speaking and writing) is desired. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of and competency in performing patient care procedures, observations, treatments, and techniques utilized by the facility. Ability to perform venipuncture. High level of interpersonal and communication skills for greeting visitors, clients, and staff in a professional manner. Effective communication skills with internal and external contacts. Knowledge of billing, office procedures, and computer skills. Analytical skills to solve patient problems and interpret data. Promotion of collaboration and innovation in clinical services to improve health care delivery. Ability to perform EKGs and other applicable procedures, such as treadmills. Working Conditions Works in a physician office environment. May require lifting or positioning of patients. Flexible hours and work schedule required. Physical Demands Requires the physical ability and stamina to walk/stand for prolonged periods, push carts/wheelchairs, lift at least 50 pounds, and position/lift patients of various sizes and weights. #J-18808-Ljbffr
