Intensive Care Unit Neurological (Neuro ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) Wausau, Wisconsin
The organization is seeking a Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide neurological assessments and critical care support for patients including stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), head injuries, and neurosurgery-related needs. The role includes performing core bedside ICU procedures and supporting neuro-focused interventions, with familiarity in devices such as external ventricular drains (EVDs) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

• Schedule: Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00 AM7:30 PM, 7:00 PM7:30 AM); minimum 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) licensure; Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC); National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); Associate Degree or Certificate
• Preferred Qualifications: Med/Surg Intensive Care Unit (MS ICU) and/or Neuro ICU background with strong neuro assessment skills; 1 travel assignment preferred; experience as a neuro interventionalist is a plus
• Responsibilities: Perform neuro assessments; complete basic bedside ICU procedures including line placement and intubation; support neuro-specific bedside procedures such as bolt and drain placements with neurosurgery; demonstrate familiarity with external ventricular drains (EVDs) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring; manage independently and complete tasks timely; adapt to change while maintaining resilience and strong work ethic
• Float: Float rotation may be required between the Neuro Critical Care ICU and the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU); possible float to other critical care units and other inpatient units as needed.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend; every other holiday
• Charting Experience: EPIC
• Additional Information: Contract length is 7 weeks; weekend/holiday unit coverage may impact shift scheduling; unit may experience low census and request reduced shift coverage in hour increments (4 or 8 hours), which is not considered on-call; vaccination compliance is required during flu season, and a mask may be required for those who decline influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations in accordance with facility policy
