Registered Nurse-Spinal Cord Injury

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Full-Time Registered Nurse to function within Patient Care Nursing Service under Acute Care Spinal Cord Injury-6B. Qualifications English Language Proficiency Proficiency in basic written and spoken English required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE) or completion of a master’s-level bridge program equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Upon state licensure, appointment may be temporary and converted to permanent after completion of the bridge program. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing must have current full, active, and unrestricted registration or a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA (e.g., ICD). Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: candidates who meet education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed on a 120‑day temporary basis while pursuing licensure. Grade Determinations: The following scope and dimension criteria must be met: Education and Dimension (Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, Evidence‑Based Practice/Research). Grade/Level Scope Education Nurse I – Level I: delivers fundamental knowledge‑based care; requires an ADN or Diploma in Nursing. Grade/Level Scope Education Nurse I – Level II: demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts; requires an ADN or Diploma with 1 year of specialized experience or a BSN. Grade/Level Scope Education Nurse I – Level III: demonstrates proficiency in planning and goal setting; requires an ADN or Diploma with 2 years of experience, a BSN with 1 year of experience, an MSN, or a related master’s with a BSN. Grade/Level Scope Education Nurse II: demonstrates leadership in holistic care; requires a BSN with 2 years experience, an MSN with 1 year, a related master’s with a BSN, a Doctoral in Nursing, or a related Doctoral with a BSN. Grade/Level Scope Education Nurse III: executes leadership roles and complex client care; requires an MSN with 2 years of specialized experience, a related master’s with a BSN and two years of experience, or a Doctoral with the appropriate experience. *Note: Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees. Preferred Experience: 2 years of medical‑surgical nursing experience and 2 years of long‑term care nursing experience. Physical Requirements: includes bending, grasping, kneeling, moderate lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds (SPHM guidelines), using mechanical lift, pivoting waist and neck, standing, walking, twisting, wrist flexion/extension, adequate vision and hearing, and proper body mechanics. Duties Demonstrates the integration of biopsychosocial principles, critical thinking, and technically proficient nursing practice in the delivery of patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care using age‑appropriate principles and interventions. Assumes responsibility for coordinating care emphasizing patient education, self‑management, and customer satisfaction across the continuum. Administers medications and performs procedures in accordance with established policies and clinical guidelines. Influences patient care outcomes through effective collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Plans and delivers technically proficient patient care in accordance with ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Communicates confidently and effectively with the healthcare team, consistently exhibiting professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork. Shares expertise and fosters collaborative opportunities to strengthen team cohesiveness. Utilizes available resources and applies sound clinical judgment to achieve optimal outcomes. Conducts professional conduct and collaborates effectively with others, leveraging individual strengths and proactively addressing expanding responsibilities. Benefits VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards. Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5 % VA contribution. Health, vision, dental, term life, and long‑term care insurance (many federal programs transferable into retirement). Licensure: Requires one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. Work Schedule: Night shift, including alternating weekends and holidays.
