Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description Job Description We are seeking a highly capable Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (contract/temporary) to support ongoing product development and improvement efforts. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role centered on improving existing designs, building hardware, and driving real-world performance. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience, strong Onshape proficiency, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative onsite environment. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Design and improve components and systems based on existing products ("like design") * Develop and release mechanical designs using Onshape * Drive improvements in performance, manufacturability, and reliability * Support testing, root cause analysis, and design iteration * Prototype and evaluate alternative design approaches * Contribute to system integration (mechanisms, motion systems, assemblies) * Develop and refine assembly and test processes * Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams * Build, assemble, and validate prototypes and hardware hands-on Requirements * 8+ years of mechanical design experience * Strong proficiency with Onshape (required) * Experience across key domains: machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, mechanisms, power transmission, and thermal systems * Experience with testing, debugging, and iterative design * Strong understanding of DFM and practical manufacturing considerations * Hands-on capability, including building and validating designs independently * Experience with electromechanical systems and system integration * Ability to adapt and improve existing designs * Comfortable working onsite in a collaborative environment Nice to have: * Experience with large weldments and structural design (FEA a plus) * Experience working around rotating machinery * Background in reliability, failure analysis, or assembly/test process development Company Description BlackTree Technical Group is a full-service staffing and recruitment firm.
