About Challenge Preparatory Charter School Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1,200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across three sites. Our mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and to achieve their career aspirations. Understanding the Role Every member of the Instructional Team at Challenge Prep plays a critical role in ensuring our students have the skills and confidence to pursue college, career, and beyond. As a General Education Teacher you will deliver exceptional instruction and assess scholar growth, advancing constant learning and proactively providing academic and cultural support to the school and team. Your position reports to the principal. Responsibilities Teach all scholars in your content area, focusing on individual aspirations and strengths. Plan for students of all ability levels, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities, to achieve academic mastery. Participate in after‑school, Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, and family programs. Serve on in‑house special programs committees. Engage in professional development such as inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, and collaborative conversation. Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans and interim assessments, share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, analyze student data, and develop best‑practice pedagogy for literacy and critical thinking across all subject areas. Use a variety of collaborative team‑teaching models for ELL students and students with special needs. Apply data from formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning. Develop an individual growth plan, including professional goals and objectives, in collaboration with the Principal or Assistant Principal. Utilize technology, including a parent/student portal and school website, to provide regular written updates and grades. Highly motivated to teach students from underserved areas and devoted to closing the achievement gap. Teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred. Ability to create a classroom where students of all academic levels experience enjoyment, engagement, and enthusiasm. Strong teamwork ethic. Ability to use data to drive instruction. Full‑time position beginning mid‑August through June. Compensation $65,000 – $95,000 per year, based on classroom teaching experience, educational requirements, and NYSED certification. Phase II – Demo, panel interview, and interview with the Senior Director of Teaching and Learning K‑5. Final – Reference check, offer, and contract. Employment Information Full‑time position begins in mid‑August and continues through the end of June.
