Job Description

The Painter Team Lead oversees a team of five or more painters and takes ownership of the preparation, painting, foaming, and finishing of HVAC systems and components. This role designs and refines painting systems and procedures, ensures high-quality and durable finishes, and maintains a safe, organized, and efficient paint operation in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, supervise, coach, and train a team of painters, providing clear direction and ongoing support.
• Oversee the preparation, painting, foaming, and finishing of HVAC systems and components to ensure high-quality workmanship.
• Design and develop painting systems and procedures for HVAC projects, including selecting appropriate coatings for different materials and environments.
• Coach and mentor painters at varying skill levels, providing guidance, training, and feedback to help them develop their technical abilities.
• Inspect HVAC components and systems to determine the best approach for painting, including surface preparation, coating selection, and application techniques.
• Manage and coordinate painting schedules to ensure timely completion of projects and effective use of labor, materials, and equipment.
• Perform complex painting tasks, including intricate detailing, high-durability coatings, and protective finishes in an industrial setting.
• Conduct quality control inspections to verify that finished surfaces meet aesthetic, functional, and durability requirements.
• Ensure all painting work complies with company quality standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on painting equipment, including spray systems, to keep them in proper working condition.
• Stay current with new painting technologies, materials, and industry best practices, and implement improvements to processes and equipment where appropriate.
• Follow instructions from senior technical staff and collaborate effectively with more experienced painters when needed.
• Apply lean manufacturing principles, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and provide suggestions to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
• Work consistently in a paint shop environment, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining all tools and equipment in good condition.
• Set up spray guns, mix paints correctly, and clean paint systems to ensure reliable operation in an industrial automotive, truck, or boat spray setting.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience in a lead or management role within painting, body shop, industrial, or similar environments.
• Strong knowledge of industrial painting techniques, coatings, and finishing processes, with careful attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality, durable finishes.
• Hands-on experience with paint systems, including setting up spray guns, mixing paint, and cleaning and maintaining spray equipment in an industrial automotive, truck, or boat spray setting.
• Experience working in a paint shop environment performing daily painting tasks, wearing a respirator, and maintaining all equipment used.
• Proficiency in paint preparation, masking, and spray application for trucks, boats, or other industrial surfaces.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specifications related to painting, coatings, and HVAC components.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address paint defects, equipment issues, and process inefficiencies.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental controls, and personal protective equipment requirements in industrial painting operations.
• Capability to perform complex painting tasks, including high-durability coatings and protective finishes.
• Ability to conduct thorough quality control inspections to ensure compliance with aesthetic and functional standards.
• Leadership skills to supervise, coach, and mentor painters at different skill levels.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb portable ladders as required.
• Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for precise spray gun and equipment operation.

• Experience in automotive, truck, boat, or industrial painting environments, including body shop or paint booth operations.
• Background in leading or supervising teams in a paint shop, body shop, or industrial painting setting.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing guidelines and continuous improvement practices.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern, state-of-the-art, air-conditioned manufacturing facility featuring industry 4.0 technology in Mesa, Arizona. The environment is cleaner and more organized than a typical body shop, with a strong emphasis on maintaining equipment and using advanced paint systems and booths. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with consistent hours and opportunities for voluntary overtime. There's also a second shift that is 3pm to 1:30am Monday through Thursday that will also earn a 10% differential. Work is performed in a paint shop setting where wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment is required. Employees regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb portable ladders as needed. The role demands good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for operating spray guns and other painting equipment. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gilbert, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
