Great schedule: 8am to 4:30 pm Mon-Fri, no after hours or weekends. Responsibilities Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the hospital pharmacy department. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all groups of patients. Ensures compliance with all laws and governing agencies. Directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies. Participates in the department’s planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resources activities. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Planning, organizing, and directing Pharmacy Department operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, in conjunction with IPS Director of Operations, Corporate Compliance Officer, and hospital administration. Monitors activities of the Pharmacy Department, taking appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation and quality patient care. Works closely with the nursing and medical staff and other clinical department managers in addressing Pharmacy Department issues as they are related to the services provided to all patients. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Conducts clinical monitoring of high-risk medications including, but not limited to, clozapine, lithium, valproic acid, opioids, benzodiazepines, and anticoagulants. Directs, optimizes, and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals. Oversees the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items in departmental and patient care locations. Directs and participates in the development, revision, implementation, and communication of policies, clinical guidelines, and treatment standards for the Pharmacy Department in accordance with hospital policies, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and federal and state regulations. Directs and participates in the human resources management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation, performance appraisal processes, and ensuring all required personnel documentation is current. Coordinates the department’s in-service training. Attends and participates on hospital committees such as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Infection Control, Quality, Department Manager’s Meeting, and Medication Management Committee, as required. Performs all aspects of pharmacy management and pharmacist duties, as required. Prepares department budget for personnel, operating expenses, and capital equipment. Responsible for fiscal operation of the department. Works in the community to bring positive attention to the effective patient care that the hospital provides. Maintains a system of records in accordance with hospital policy for recording patient charges as well as maintaining adequate controls over requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. Maintains formularies and other medication-related documents, information resources and references for preparations. Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) activities assigned to the Pharmacy Department. Reads, analyzes, and interprets pharmacy-related journals. Responds to common inquiries or complaints from facility partners, regulatory agencies, or members of the hospital staff. Reviews and summarizes articles and studies to effectively present information to management, medical staff, hospital staff, and public groups. Qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree, or equivalent. Graduate from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or certified by the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC). Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the state of practice. Required Skills Management training in a hospital setting or at least 2 years of Pharmacy Department managerial experience required. Intermediate computer knowledge: Office 365. Automated pharmacy systems: Automated Dispensing Software, Analytics Reporting, Order Entry Software. Self-directed, motivated, and capable of supervising pharmacy support personnel. Preferred Skills Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
