Utility Inspector

Utility Inspector The Utility Inspector will support large-scale water infrastructure projects by inspecting lead service lines and related utilities, ensuring they are replaced with compliant copper lines and meet all safety and regulatory standards. This role combines field inspections, construction oversight, and direct interaction with homeowners to verify structural soundness, document conditions, and support successful project delivery across multiple sites in central and coastal northern New Jersey. Responsibilities: Inspect water mains, service lines, and other structures such as roads, dams, bridges, and related infrastructure to verify structural soundness, safety, and compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Inspect existing lead service lines and associated utility infrastructure to support their replacement with copper lines in accordance with project specifications. Document inspection results in detail, including deterioration, structural condition, and any deficiencies between design documents and actual construction execution. Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports, construction documentation, and project status updates to track progress and issues. Monitor construction progress in the field and contribute to construction reports and project status reports for internal and external stakeholders. Work Environment: This is a field-based role focused on active construction and utility replacement projects across central New Jersey and coastal northern New Jersey. The Utility Inspector will spend most of the day outdoors, canvassing and surveying neighborhoods, visiting homeowner properties, and working at active construction sites. The position typically follows a schedule of approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with opportunities for overtime based on project needs. The role requires regular travel between project locations using a personal vehicle, with mileage reimbursed according to company guidelines. Inspectors will use tablets, mobile phones, and a dedicated mobile app that provides scripts, data collection forms, and guidance for homeowner interactions and field documentation. Work involves inspecting pipes and other infrastructure, taking photographs, and entering data in real time. The environment is collaborative and project-driven, with close coordination among field inspectors, construction teams, and engineering staff. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of New Brunswick, NJ. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
