JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you looking for an exciting career with a stable company? Wood is seeking an automation-driven Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician to join our operations team in Wyoming. Candidates must live local in the Sheridan, Buffalo and Gillette areas. This role focuses strictly on low-voltage applications (typically 12/24VDC and 120VAC), precision automation instrumentation, and digital telemetry across our oil and gas production well facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• RF Network Management: Configure, monitor, and optimize licensed and unlicensed radio networks (e.g., MDS 9710/9810 SD Series, TransNET, Freewave) across remote well sites.
• Telemetry & RTU Optimization: Install, configure, and troubleshoot Ferguson Beauregard, TotalFlow, SCADApack, and Fisher ROC RTUs, specializing in electronic flow measurement (EFM) and downhole pump control.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose RF path failures, signal degradation, and protocol communication errors. Repair or replace field transmission hardware, antennas, feedlines, and lightning protectors.
• Protocol & Networking Integration: Ensure robust data polling over Modbus and DNP3 protocols across serial-to-IP bridges and industrial wireless links.
• Preventative Testing: Conduct field radio path studies, optimize signal-to-noise ratios, and perform routine diagnostics using spectrum analyzers and power meters (e.g., VSWR testing).

Low Voltage Systems: Diagnose, wire, and repair low-voltage circuits up to 120VAC/24VDC, solar charging systems, backup battery banks, and radio telemetry equipment

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical certification or Associate degree in Automation, Instrumentation, or Electronics highly preferred
• Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience with industrial RF networks and remote telemetry in the oil and gas upstream sectors.
• RTU Expertise: Technical familiarity with Ferguson Beauregard and TotalFlow hardware and their specific oil/gas well automation applications.
• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of industrial serial (RS-232/485) and Ethernet communication topologies, TCP/IP networking, and power systems (solar/battery configurations at remote sites).
• Working Conditions
• Field-Heavy Operations: Requires frequent travel to remote field locations, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and climbing structures or communication towers.
• Emergency Response: Participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to respond to critical communication outages and minimize production downtime.
