Position Summary A career‑minded Water/Wastewater engineer is needed to join JMT’s fast‑growing Water/Wastewater consulting practice. The employee will plan, lead, and design projects in the water/wastewater field, applying design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes. Responsibilities include managing multiple design projects simultaneously, preparing and updating project schedules, documenting critical design elements, and coordinating a design team to meet project requirements and client feedback. The role supports sewershed study and rehabilitation, new sewer design, water distribution, water/wastewater treatment, and pump station projects in the Mid‑Atlantic. Compensation for this position is $45–55 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The range is a good‑faith estimate based on the job requirements; actual pay may vary. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop accurate reports for submittal. Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geological data to plan projects and tasks. Assess and identify collection/distribution system performance deficiencies, predict future issues, and develop solutions for planning and design projects. Demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, water/wastewater pump station and treatment process design, engineering economics, specification preparation, and engineering report writing. Show a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles; experience in environmental facilities operations is considered a plus. Perform design computations and prepare design drawings. Use design software and drawing tools to develop or review projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines. Develop or review construction cost estimates and prepare contract plans, specifications, and estimates. Attend client meetings and assist in taking meeting minutes. Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design. Conduct quality reviews of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan. Provide technical oversight and guidance/support to Design Engineers within the department. Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills 5–10 years of experience. Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university. Proficiency in related design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS, and MS Project. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong written and communication skills. The job is generally sedentary but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion, which may involve working outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, or dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
