Responds to resuscitation situations and other respiratory emergencies when needed. Maintains and completes appropriate documentation in patients' charts and departmental records. Performs as charge therapist when necessary.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Administer continuous oxygen and continuous bland aerosol therapy per department guidelinesPerforms intermittent therapy and diagnostic procedures per department guidelinesAccess patient medication from the Medication Security Area to implement respiratory care per hospital and departmental policies and proceduresInitiate and maintain mechanical ventilation and completes appropriate documentationProvide airway management, ventilation, and closed chest compression as necessary during emergency resuscitation. Perform intubation after receiving approval.Initiate and maintain monitoring equipmentPerform as charge therapists in the absence of a supervisorKnowledgeable in the use of equipment and treatment modalities for patients of all agesCharge all services provided inclusive of use of BCX systemOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training:CRT credentials or Provisional License requiredGraduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care ProgramCertified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT)Licensed by the NCRCBBCLS certified by the American Heart AssociationMust obtain RRT credentials within 36 months of hire date to maintain employmentWork Experience:NoneKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Must have an understanding of medical terminology and current respiratory care modalitiesMust have the ability to react calmly and maintain composure in stressful situations and when dealing with co-workers, patients, and hospital guestsKnowledgeable of the psychosocial and physiological development and spiritual needs of infants, children, adolescents, and all adult age groups (per Erickson's Model) in order to provide appropriate care and intervention, either personally or though staffPhysical Requirements:Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needsVisual acuity for observation of patientsLong periods of standing, walking, bending, and liftingManual dexterity to operate and assemble equipmentAbility to position and move patientsAbility to push heavy equipment to patients' bedsidesMay involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materialRequired Licenses and CertificationsRRT - National Board For Respiratory CareCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
