Part-Time Student Transportation Van Driver

La Academia's Student Transportation Van Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students to and from school, designated bus stops, and approved school-related activities as assigned. The driver serves as a representative of the school and is expected to maintain the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service while creating a positive and respectful environment for all student passengers.

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to and from designated locations according to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all student passengers during transportation.
  • Follow established student loading and unloading procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior and report concerns to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and in safe operating condition.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as school transportation policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents, incidents, vehicle concerns, and student disciplinary issues promptly to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records, including mileage logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation as required.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents/caregivers, school staff, and the Transportation Department.
  • Participate in required training sessions, safety meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Assist with student evacuations and emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of a Public-School Employee Background Check.
  • Current Child Protection Clearances as required by state regulations.
  • Experience working with children, students, or within a school environment preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of NON-DOT drug testing.
  • Driving record review demonstrating a safe driving history.
  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination and any required medical clearances.
  • Completion of all required transportation safety and student management training.
  • Ability to maintain certification requirements as mandated by the school and state regulations.
Working Conditions
  • Part-time position with a split schedule consisting of morning and afternoon routes.
  • Occasional transportation assignments for field trips, extracurricular activities, or special events.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and road environments.
  • Frequent interaction with students, families, and school personnel.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to enter and exit the vehicle multiple times throughout the workday.
  • Ability to assist students entering and exiting the vehicle when necessary.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies.
Compensation
  • Daily rate based on assigned routes and responsibilities.
  • Additional compensation may be available for approved extracurricular trips or special assignments.
