Mortgage Loan Officer Responsible for originating residential first mortgage and equity loans and participating in related business development activities. Ensures members receive quality mortgage loan origination servicing per VyStar mortgage lending policies, practices, and procedures. Counsels members and obtains information needed to evaluate credit applications. Essential Job Functions Originates residential mortgage loans and solicits residential first mortgages and equity loans through contacts with realtors, builders, developers, and personal referrals. Provides quality service to members and potential members seeking residential mortgage loans. Interviews applicants to gather financial information and assess credit risk, enters data into point‑of‑sale origination software, and discusses the application with the member. Obtains and analyzes pertinent financial and credit data; requests additional information required to complete the loan application package. Provides required disclosures electronically and, if necessary, in paper form; maintains communication with processors and members throughout the loan process. Acts as main point of contact for information and guidance for members; documents all communication in the mortgage origination software. Assists the assigned mortgage loan processor and closer to obtain documentation ensuring a smooth loan process; proactively communicates status updates. Attends the mortgage loan closing with the member whenever possible. Reviews monthly production reports with the Mortgage Loan Officer Manager to ensure goals are met. Cross‑sells other credit union services. Demonstrates VyStar Excellence behaviors and supports employees within the processing unit. Adheres to VyStar core values, Code of Ethics, and corporate‑defined ethics; provides service to members, employees, and vendors. Works proactively toward department and credit union goals, identifying and recommending process improvements. Performs other duties as assigned to maintain a healthy risk culture and compliance with regulatory mandates. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Minimum two years of prior mortgage industry experience, preferably as a loan officer or interviewer in a direct member contact capacity. Proven production record; self‑disciplined, goal‑oriented, and able to work independently. Superior communication skills and proficiency with conventional, VA, FHA, and equity loan financing, as well as mortgage lending regulations. Familiarity with private mortgage insurance and secondary market lending guidelines. Ability to produce consistently in this position within six months. Education High school diploma or equivalent required; two‑year college degree or higher preferred. Must be a registered mortgage loan originator employed by a federally regulated institution, holding current NMLS and satisfying S.A.F.E. Act requirements. Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with members, realtors, builders, and clients. Commitment to continuing education and membership in mortgage banking associations.
