Senior Business Specialist

General Summary Colonial Life is looking for a Senior Business Specialist in Columbia, SC to support Underwriting and product development teams. This role is responsible for providing system, process, testing, and project support for medium to large functional or cross‑functional initiatives, partnering with IT and other areas, and mentoring junior team members. The position requires a minimum of three days per week in the office. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Application/Technical/Process Support: Direct and lead efforts to identify, research, and resolve complex problems; analyze potential solutions; monitor production systems; support system change requests; collaborate with functional areas and IT to prioritize and implement changes; act as subject matter expert in large projects; participate in requirements elicitation; ensure end‑user focus; document system and process support. Testing (SCR & Projects): Manage testing for medium to large initiatives, develop test plans and cases, track results, analyze thoroughly, document and obtain sign‑off; assess impacts on integrated systems. Business Initiatives: Coordinate projects, perform situational business analysis, and support large cross‑functional projects. Partnering and Communications: Ensure strong collaboration within the functional area and across functional teams and IT. Continuous Improvement / Process Innovation: Identify ways to improve existing processes; may train or mentor junior team members; perform other duties as assigned. Job Specifications – Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. 5+ years in the functional area or related discipline. Advanced knowledge of Agile methodology, systems, business processes, and cross‑functional impacts. Advanced business knowledge of the customers and processes they support. Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); preferred knowledge of MS Project. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Basic PC/Mainframe/application experience. Advanced negotiation skills. Excellent planning, organization, and time‑management skills. Ability to set goals, take initiative, and drive results with appropriate urgency. Advanced leadership skills and experience with project management methodology. Strong understanding of corporate systems development methodology and awareness of other methodologies. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $45,600.00 – $86,200.00.
