Language Access Services Manager

In this role, you will manage language access services for the detention facility, including interpretation, translation, scheduling, quality assurance, documentation, and coordination with operational departments. You will lead assigned language-services personnel and vendors while ensuring accurate, timely, confidential, and culturally appropriate communication for detainees, facility staff, medical teams, legal representatives, and government partners. This position requires strong leadership, language-services expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain compliance within a secure government environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily interpretation and translation services supporting resident communication, medical care, legal access, orientations, programs, and facility operations.
• Schedule and coordinate qualified interpreters, translators, bilingual staff, and approved vendors to meet operational language needs.
• Monitor the accuracy, impartiality, timeliness, and professionalism of interpretation and translation services.
• Develop and maintain language-access procedures, assignment records, service logs, quality-control documentation, and operational reports.
• Review translated forms, notices, instructions, correspondence, and other approved materials for accuracy, consistency, and appropriate terminology.
• Train, coach, and evaluate assigned language-services personnel regarding ethics, confidentiality, terminology, facility procedures, and service expectations.
• Coordinate with facility leadership, medical teams, legal representatives, government partners, and outside providers regarding language-access needs.
• Protect confidential resident, medical, legal, personnel, and operational information in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Address service concerns, interpreter availability issues, quality deficiencies, and urgent language needs through the appropriate chain of command.
• Support audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and corrective actions related to language access and communication services.
• Maintain awareness of applicable language-access requirements, professional standards, facility policies, and operational security procedures.
• Maintain professionalism, cultural awareness, strong communication, and sound judgment while supporting secure and effective facility operations.

Qualifications:

• Must possess a minimum of three (2) years of professional interpretation, translation, language-access, or closely related bilingual services experience.
• Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory, lead, scheduling, or program-coordination experience.
• Bachelor degree in interpretation, translation, linguistics, communications, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Professional interpreter or translator certification is preferred.
• Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
• If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
• Must consent to fingerprinting.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
• Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.

Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
