Surgical Technologist

Overview The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. Working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Surgical Technologist ensures surgeons and the surgical team have everything they need for successful procedures. Responsibilities Assist the RN and surgical team with limited direct patient care. Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures. Maintain a strong understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Ensure a sterile field is properly set up, maintained, and protected throughout the procedure. Clean, prepare, and package instruments for disinfection and sterilization. Assist with room turnover between cases, including cleaning and preparing the environment for the next patient. Uphold patient safety standards and maintain required clinical competencies based on scope and training. Adhere to AORN Recommended Practices and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrate responsibility in time management, resource use, and supply handling. Participate as a collaborative and supportive team member. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Certifications Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred. Experience Experience in an operating room setting is required. Skills Proficiency in sterile technique. Knowledge of surgical instruments and their uses. Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs. Strong understanding of surgical procedures. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
