OtterCare: Intake & Student Support Coordinator Job no: 558209 Work type: Staff Location: Monterey Bay Category: Unit 4 – APC – Academic Professionals of California, Probationary, Full Time, Student Services, On‑site PURPOSE Under the general direction of the Director of OtterCare, the Intake & Student Support Coordinator serves as the primary front‑facing support staff member for OtterCare services. The incumbent provides intake, triage, and general service navigation for students experiencing barriers such as food insecurity, short‑term financial hardship, academic or general well‑being concerns. The position focuses on front‑desk operations, low‑complexity 1:1 student support, and operational assistance to OtterCare Care Coordinators to ensure effective service delivery. Intake, Assessment, and Student Support Serve as the primary point of contact for students accessing OtterCare services within the Dean of Students Office. Conduct intake and assess student needs using a socio‑ecological assessment approach, considering multiple factors impacting student well‑being and access to resources. Triage and refer students to appropriate resources or higher‑level professional staff when situations involve greater complexity, risk, or sensitivity. Respond to student inquiries via in‑person, phone, virtual, and shared program communication channels. Conduct follow‑up communication to support student connection to services. Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and student‑centered service environment. Program Operations and Care Coordination Support Coordinate student access to public benefits through BenefitsCal, including CalFresh, CalWORKs, and Medi‑Cal, by guiding application completion, troubleshooting barriers, and supporting follow‑through. Assess student food security needs and implement appropriate interventions, including connecting students to emergency food resources and ongoing nutrition support services. Coordinate outreach efforts to increase student awareness and utilization of OtterCare services, with a focus on benefit enrollment and food access. Collaborate with county social services and community partners to streamline referrals, resolve application issues, and strengthen pathways to public benefits. Support continuity of care by documenting benefit‑related interactions, tracking application progress, and coordinating follow‑up to ensure students successfully access services. Maintain and strengthen partnerships, resource networks, and service pathways that expand student access to food security and public benefits. Outreach and Program Assistance Deliver outreach and engagement activities that increase student awareness of OtterCare services, including workshops, tabling, presentations, and targeted communications. Provide generalist support across OtterCare initiatives as assigned, assisting with service delivery that addresses students’ basic needs, well‑being, and access to resources. Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate outreach efforts and expand access points for students seeking support. Assist with implementation of programs and services that promote student well‑being, including support for food access initiatives and other basic needs efforts. Provide guidance and day‑to‑day direction to student assistants, supporting onboarding, training, and effective service delivery. Other Functions Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques, and of the principles of individual and group behavior. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; a master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Education: Graduation from a four‑year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience may be substituted for required education on a year‑for‑year basis. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE Minimum of two years of professional experience in student services, food access programs, or a related area. Experience working directly with diverse student or community populations. Experience coordinating programs, services, or operations and supervising, training, or mentoring student staff, volunteers, or peer educators. Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, public administration, or a related field. Experience supporting college students with food access, resource navigation, or OtterCare initiatives. Experience managing or supporting a food pantry, food recovery program, or similar service operation. Knowledge of campus and community resource systems, including referral processes. Experience with data tracking, assessment, and program evaluation. Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to the student population.
