GENERAL SUMMARY

Resident Aide provides limited supportive services to the residents. Position is intended to be short-term prior to Resident Aide becoming a certified nursing assistant.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Communicate to the unit nurse when changes are identified in resident status.

· Daily duties may include:

o Answering call lights and notifying C.N.A’s when ADL care is needed.

o Verify call lights are within reach and clipped to bedding as appropriate.

o Pass snacks/supplements and ice waters.

o Transport residents to and from activities and various locations within the facility.

o Assist with re-directing residents, providing 1 to 1 support and/or engaging residents in 1to1 or small group activities.

o Straighten resident rooms: make beds, clean bedside stands, remove trash.

o Stock resident rooms with appropriate levels of incontinence products.

o Assist with gathering resident food orders.

o Assist residents with meals: verify adaptive equipment, set up, opening items, cutting foods and verbal prompting/cuing.

§ Assist with feeding residents after the successful completion of 8-hour course competency.

o Document FAR’s, snacks/supplements.

o Deliver room trays to those residents who dine in their rooms.

o Collect room trays and return food carts to the kitchen.

o Assist/wash resident’s face and hands prior to and after meals, offer clothing protectors to residents.

· Works cooperatively with other staff members, which includes sharing information and assisting as needed.

· All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS):

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Attend the C.N.A training program and complete certification within six months of employment.

Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
• Push/pull wheeled carts and chairs weighing up to three hundred (300) pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Works in resident rooms and at the unit nursing station with exposure to noise and unpleasant odors.
• Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
• Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.
• Unpredictable mealtimes: breaks are scheduled around resident care needs.

TERMS OF CONTINUTED EMPLOYMENT:

The intent of this position is to gain resident experience and then transition to CNA training and become a Certified Nursing Assistant. The duration of this position should not exceed one year from the date of hire. If an employee determines they are not interested in becoming a CNA or if they cannot pass the CNA certification exams, they could apply for other positions within the organization.
