The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) isthe state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

ANTICIPATED VACANCY
This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Auto Equipment Mechanic II within the Maintenance Unit. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
The duties and responsibilities associated with this position are to maintain and perform all mechanical and electrical repair work on all of the center's fleet vehicles, lawn mowing and landscaping equipment. Also have a working knowledge of the center's Mission statement, its Vision, Values, organizational structure and NFETC operational procedures relevent to assigned duties and responsibilities. Also complies with NFETC administrative directives.
- Performs preventive maintenance on all fleet vehicles (approx. 12) weekly, monthly and quarterly; then document and record each vehicles mileage, overall condition and fuel used on the NFETC Vehicle Monthly Log and e-mail it to the Property Administrator at NEFSH.
- Independently performs repairs, service and maintenance work on gas motor vehicles, Diesel tractors, E-Z Go Carts, portable generators,Hi-Lift, portable arc welder and lawn equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, hedgers and chain saws.
- On all vehicles performs repairs or replaces items like belts, spark plugs, checks all fluid levels, rotates tires and these tires will be installed with a torque wrench to manufacture specifications, all lights and mirrors, Oil and oil filter, seats, flooring, gas filter, air filter, radios, heaters and wipers.
- Maintains fuel in all vehicles by checking each one every Friday. Ensures the fuel pump is working and measures fuel level in the tank every month and documents on a chart to keep and maintain enough fuel on hand at all times.
- Performs checks to detect and determine problems that are manufacture related maintenance like brakes, drums, rotors, cables, calipers, any HVAC problems, transmission problems, engine problems, universal joints bad, drive shaft problems, radiator coolant problems and tire changes off rims. All of these problems the manufacturer will repair.
- Responsible for providing 24-hour service to all NFETC vehicles. Responds to emergencies on an as needed basis.
- Keeps all tools organized and clean for all maintenance personnel to use whenever on vacation. All tools needed will be provided and no personal tools are to be brought in. Organize garage to keep it clean and inventory all parts to keep a small amount on hand for repairs. Be able to work with suppliers to correctly identify the right part to order or have on back-order and shipped, if necessary.
- Performs other duties to help all other maintenance personnel when required like moving furniture, moving appliances and escorting contractors when everyone else is busy.
- Performs oxygen-acetylene cutting, mig or arc welding when needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:
- Knowledge of the principles and basic techniques of automotive repair work.
- Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the repair of automotive equipment.
- Skill in the use of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to perform a variety of automotive equipment repairs.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles.
- Ability to inspect and tune up equipment.
- Ability to assist in body and fender repair work.
- Ability to replace, repair and install accessories, such as radios, heaters, windshield wipers, etc.
- Ability to provide instruction to the lower level mechanics.
- Ability to perform oxygen acetylene and electric welding.
- Ability to repair and replace fuel injection systems.
- Ability to review ignition systems, lights and instrument panels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in automotive repair work.
- Vocational/technical training in automotive repair can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Ability to weld and braze metals.
- Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to repair and install electrical circuits.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Physical abilities such as bending, stooping, working in inclement weather and lifting at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to always wear ear protection due to loud noises from engines.
- Ability to work with others. Organize and keep shop and tools clean.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on all fleet vehicles (approx. 12) weekly, monthly and quarterly, then document and record each vehicle’s mileage, overall condition and fuel used on the NFETC Vehicle Monthly Log and e-mail it to the Property Administrator at NEFSH.
