We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who demonstrates advanced financial analysis capabilities, excels at conducting complex financial research, and can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial processing, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance with institutional and funding regulations. The accountant II will be responsible for analyzing and resolving complex accounting issues, performing reconciliations, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and providing financial guidance to departments.Key Responsibilities:Review, research, correct, and post deposits to the appropriate department owners within PeopleSoft.Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and institutional policies.Perform complex reconciliations of transactions, accounts, and departmental financial activity.Analyze accounting data and financial trends to support reporting, decision-making, and process improvements.Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, exceptions, and variances.Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders.Ensure compliance with applicable institutional, state, and funding-source policies and procedures.Assist in developing and improving accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting practices.Provide guidance and support to departments regarding financial transactions and accounting procedures.Ideal Candidate Profile:Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes.Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word.Ability to apply mathematical and accounting reasoning to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions.Sound judgment in interpreting and applying policies, procedures, regulations, and accounting standards.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Benefits:UT Southwestern is proud to offer a competitive and comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees.
