Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Medical or Specialty Director, the Physician provides comprehensive, culturally competent, patient-centered care within their designated specialty. The Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating acute and chronic physical and behavioral health conditions, providing preventive care, counseling and education, and ensuring continuity of care.

This role requires a high level of clinical knowledge, professional judgment, and independent decision-making to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality healthcare services while supporting Unity Health Care’s commitment to improving health outcomes, patient experience, care team well-being, and organizational sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive patient histories and conduct appropriate physical examinations and clinical evaluations.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Order and interpret diagnostic, laboratory, and screening tests.
• Provide preventive healthcare, screenings, counseling, and patient education.
• Refer patients to hospitals, specialists, social services, and other healthcare providers when appropriate.
• Deliver culturally competent, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and implement clinical best practices.
• Conduct peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to colleagues.
• Maintain required clinical privileges and continuing medical education.
• Collaborate with health center leadership and clinical teams on patient panel and population health management.
• Review patient experience data and implement strategies to improve patient satisfaction and access to care.
• Communicate respectfully with patients and actively involve them in healthcare decisions.
• Respond promptly to patient phone calls, test results, complaints, and other clinical needs.
• Maintain an accessible clinical schedule and support coverage for late, walk-in, or rescheduled patients when appropriate.
• Participate in rotating after-hours call coverage as required.
• Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive, coordinated care.
• Participate in teaching and mentoring students, residents, and staff as requested.
• Attend and actively participate in team, health center, and organization-wide meetings.
• Monitor productivity and utilization and collaborate with leadership to improve patient access, workflow, and efficiency.
• Participate in population health initiatives.
• Complete and lock clinical documentation within established timelines, including addressing outstanding claims.
• Serve on clinical or organizational committees as requested by the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of medicine.
• Current and active District of Columbia medical license.
• Current District of Columbia Controlled Substance Registration (CDS), as applicable.
• Current DEA registration in the District of Columbia, as applicable.
• Board eligible or board certified in the appropriate medical specialty.
• Must obtain board certification within one year of hire if not already board certified.
• Strong clinical knowledge and ability to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Strong communication, clinical decision-making, and documentation skills.
• Must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation and provide evening or weekend patient coverage when needed.
