Shop Hand

The Shop Hand supports safe and efficient shop, yard, and equipment operations by cleaning, maintaining, rebuilding, loading, unloading, and moving company equipment and materials. This position also assists with general mechanical and electrical maintenance of machines, tools, and equipment while helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist with mechanical and electrical components according to work requirements.
• Perform general repairs to support equipment reliability and safe operations.
• Work with service equipment and follow detailed instructions to complete tasks efficiently and correctly.
• Load, unload, move, and organize supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Clean the shop and yard areas, paint as needed, and retrieve parts and tools.
• Install, repair, and maintain equipment or components as assigned.
• Pick up and deliver parts, including pulling a trailer when required.
• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment in accordance with company safety requirements.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Shop Manager or other authorized supervisor or manager.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education.
• Must have valid, state-issued Class C driver license; CDL a plus.
• Prior work experience in a warehouse, including material-handling with heavy equipment; operation and maintenance a plus; forklift operator certified a plus.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written in English.
• Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
• Basic writing, math, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to interact with others in a team environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
• Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.
• Must successfully complete company-required pre-employment and job-relevant screenings, as applicable and consistent with applicable law.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Frequently lift up to 75 lbs.; team lift up to 100 lbs. as needed for heavier materials or equipment.
• Stand approximately 6 hours, walk approximately 4 hours, and sit approximately 2 hours during a typical 8-hour shift.
• Frequently bend, stoop, twist, squat, and push/pull materials or equipment; occasionally kneel and climb.
• Climb ladders or access equipment up to 15 ft. when required for shop, yard, or equipment access.
• Use grip strength of approximately 4060 lbs. for material handling, tools, forklift-related tasks, and trailer/load securement activities.
• Work in both shop and outdoor yard environments with exposure to temperature extremes and moderate noise levels; hearing protection may be required in designated areas.
• Operate or work around forklifts, trailers, hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
• Wear required PPE, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves when handling materials, and hearing protection in designated areas.
• Follow applicable safety procedures, including forklift certification requirements and lockout/tagout procedures when working on equipment.
• Typical schedule is an 8-hour shift on a 5/2 rotation with approximately 10% travel for parts pickup, deliveries, or other job-related needs.
