Manufacturing Manager Mason welcomes people who share our determination and high standards to join us in doing work that moves the world forward. We design, manufacture, and market highly engineered products and systems principally for the aerospace and defense markets. Mason, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transdigm, offers world-class control devices and subsystems such as control grips, throttles, HaWC controllers, and communications interfaces for today's advanced cockpits, military vehicles, and other specialized applications. Our solutions fall into two broad categories: control products and components. Title: Manufacturing Manager Job Family: Operations Reports to: VP of Operations FLSA Status: Exempt EEOC Class: First/Mid-level Officials & Managers Summary The Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for company machine shop operations including fabrication and assembly. This person will direct activities through subordinate managers or supervisors to meet production goals consistent with safety, quality, and delivery and cost requirements. Position Duties Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the machine shop, implementing best practices to ensure the efficient and precise production of aerospace components while meeting stringent industry standards.
  • Manage and coordinate the workflow and schedules of machinists and production staff by employing effective project management techniques, ensuring that all tasks are prioritized appropriately to meet production deadlines.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and quality standards specific to aerospace manufacturing, conducting regular training sessions and safety drills to foster a culture of safety and awareness among all employees.
  • Develop and implement targeted process improvements aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing waste, and optimizing resource utilization, leveraging techniques such as Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Monitor and analyze production data with advanced analytics tools to derive insights, optimize machine performance, and allocate resources efficiently, encouraging data-driven decision-making within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to address technical challenges as they arise, facilitating brainstorming sessions and knowledge sharing to implement effective solutions rapidly.
  • Supervise maintenance activities proactively to ensure that all machines and equipment remain in optimal working condition, scheduling regular maintenance checks and addressing issues before they affect production flow.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel through structured programs aimed at building a skilled and efficient workforce, providing clear feedback and career development opportunities.
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials and components meticulously to prevent production delays, utilizing inventory management systems to track stock levels and forecast needs accurately.
  • Prepare and manage the machine shop budget comprehensively, accounting for labor, materials, and operational costs while identifying areas for cost savings and ensuring financial accountability.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high standards of precision and quality, ensuring that all manufactured components meet required tolerances and specifications.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services, establishing strong relationships and negotiating favorable terms that support the shop's operational needs.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices, fostering an environment where employees are encouraged to suggest innovative solutions and improvements.
  • Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders regarding project timelines, deliverables, and potential challenges, utilizing collaborative tools to keep everyone informed and engaged throughout the production process.
  • Implement and enforce comprehensive safety protocols aimed at maintaining a safe working environment, conducting regular safety audits and promptly addressing any hazards or compliance issues that arise.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a closely related discipline is essential, complemented by a solid foundation in technical principles. An undergraduate degree in Business or a related technical field may also be considered, contingent upon evaluation of equivalent experience.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in the manufacturing sector, with at least five of those years in a leadership position. Experience in the aerospace industry is highly preferred, as it requires specialized knowledge of industry regulations and practices.
  • LEAN Manufacturing Expertise: A thorough understanding of LEAN manufacturing principles is crucial. Demonstrated success in implementing LEAN methodologies and driving transformation initiatives within a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Organizational Skills: The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional organizational capabilities with a proven ability to multitask and effectively manage a demanding workload across various projects and responsibilities.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: A strong comprehension of existing manufacturing processes, including the intricacies of CNC machinery, tooling, and machining processes is essential. Experience working within a machine shop environment is a must, ideally with at least five years in the aerospace sector.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven leadership abilities are critical, including the capacity to inspire and motivate personnel. Experience in managing and leading a team of machinists and technicians is required, along with a demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with both internal teams and external customers.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong technical skills should be evident, with the ability to understand and apply complex technical knowledge in a leadership role. This includes the capability to convey technical issues clearly and effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders across the organization.
  • Quality Standards Familiarity: A working knowledge of industry-specific quality standards, including ISO 9001 and AS9100, is necessary. Familiarity with quality control protocols and their application in a manufacturing setting is also essential.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates should be able to present information clearly and effectively, utilizing strong analytical skills to support decision-making processes.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Exceptional problem-solving skills are essential, with the ability to troubleshoot machinery and production issues quickly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to workflow.
  • Project Management Proficiency: Strong project management capabilities are vital, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to tight deadlines. Candidates should be proficient in the use of CAD/CAM software and manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems.
  • Collaboration Skills: The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and quality assurance, is crucial for success in this role.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to work, showcasing strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail, is essential for maintaining high-quality standards in the manufacturing process.
  • Work Environment Adaptability: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment while maintaining composure and decisiveness, particularly in situations that demand tact, sensitivity, and persuasive communication skills.
  • Commitment to Safety and Compliance: A deep commitment to upholding safety standards and compliance within the workplace is paramount, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
