Residential Service Plumber Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of West Madison | Verona, WI
Full-time, W-2 | $42.00 to $50.00+ per hour, plus uncapped commission, spiffs, and on-call premium
$100,000+ realistic first year for a licensed journeyman

You already know how to run a call. 

This is not an entry-level posting. We are looking for someone who can be handed a service address at 8:00 AM and be trusted to handle whatever is behind the door.

You pull up, you read the house, you find the actual problem instead of the obvious one, you lay out the options honestly, and you leave with the customer glad they called us. Nobody is riding along to check your work. Nobody is talking you through a water heater over the phone. (unless you really need help - we lean on each other and our master plumber) 

If that is how you already work, keep reading. If you are still learning it, we respect that, but this is not the seat.

We are a customer service company that happens to do plumbing. The wrench work is the price of entry. What we are actually hiring for is the person the homeowner trusts.

What you will earn:
$100,000+ in your first year is the realistic number for a licensed journeyman in this seat. With on-call and overtime, $125,000 is in reach.

That is not a ceiling we are describing. 
It is what the pay plan does when a good tech runs a full board.

You choose how you get paid. Most shops hand you one pay plan and tell you to like it. We offer three, and you pick at offer time: a higher flat hourly if you want a predictable check, or a base plus uncapped commission on every job you complete, with no tiers to climb and no quota to hit before it starts earning, or pure commission. We will sit down and run the real math on both with your actual numbers before you sign anything, and whichever one you take, we will never push you off it.

Your first 45 days come with a guaranteed weekly floor. Leaving a job you already have is the risky part. We take that risk off you while your commission ramps and the territory fills in. It is a floor, not a draw. We never claw it back.

On-call pays a premium on a published rotation that everyone takes a turn in. It is a rotation, not a volunteer trap. 
Holiday and overtime premiums stack on top.

You are getting in on the ground floor of a multi-territory operation covering Madison, Middleton, Verona, Waunakee, and the surrounding Dane County communities, and the person who proves out first moves up to Lead Technician or Manager.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is "The Punctual Plumber." If we are late, we pay the customer $5 a minute. That is not a slogan we put on the van and forget about. It is how we schedule, how we dispatch, and how we decide what a good day looks like.

We are locally owned. When you have a problem, you talk to the owner, not a regional VP in another state.

What you will do

• Run residential service and repair calls start to finish: leaks, drains, fixtures, sewer lines, gas lines, sump and ejector pumps.
• Diagnose accurately the first time, then present Straight Forward Pricing options so the homeowner chooses with full information before any work starts.
• Install and replace water heaters (tank and tankless), water softeners, filtration, and water treatment.
• Perform drain cleaning, de-scaling, hydro jetting, and camera inspections.
• Whole-house re-pipes
• Run whole-home plumbing inspections and flag real problems before they become emergencies.
• Handle the whole call yourself: the diagnosis, the conversation, the pricing, the repair, the cleanup, and the paperwork.
• Test every part of the job before you leave, and confirm it works. Callbacks cost us both money.
• Explain what you did and why, in plain language, without talking down to anybody.
• Wear floor savers. Leave the home cleaner than you found it.
• Work to Wisconsin plumbing code (SPS 382 and 384) under our Master Plumber of record.
• Keep your van clean, stocked, and organized, and your digital records accurate. 

What you bring

• An active Wisconsin DSPS plumbing license. Journeyman Plumber, Journeyman Plumber Restricted Appliance, or Master Plumber. We verify every credential through DSPS before an offer goes out.
• 3+ years of hands-on residential service and repair. New construction and commercial experience is welcome, but service is the job.
• Hands-on with drain cleaning, hydro jetting, and camera inspection. Re-pipe experience is a strong plus.
• Proven ability to run calls unsupervised. You have been the only person on site, and it went fine.
• Comfort presenting tiered pricing and talking money with homeowners without flinching.
• Real diagnostic instinct. You find the cause, not just the symptom.
• Valid Wisconsin driver's license and an insurable driving record.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in crawl spaces, attics, and tight mechanical rooms.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment non-THC drug screen. 

Licensed in another state? Wisconsin does not grant reciprocity, but if you completed a 5-year apprenticeship or held a comparable journeyman license for 5+ years, DSPS will let you sit for the Wisconsin exam. Talk to us. We will work with you on the timeline.
