Director of Energy Assessments Division

Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Director, the incumbent will plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Energy Assessments Division and ensure that these activities are coordinated with other state programs. The incumbent will advise the Commission, Governor's Office, Legislature and other governmental agencies on matters related to transportation fuels, electricity and natural gas reliability and markets; participate in the development, evaluation and implementation of Commission and State energy programs and policy, including energy forecasting activities and represent the Division before the Energy Commission, the Legislature and the general public.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.

2. Knowledge of and experience in managing the design and implementation of electricity, transportation fuels, and natural gas systems analysis, energy data collection and management activities, and electricity and natural gas forecasting and state planning efforts.

3. Demonstrated ability to effectively liaise with top-level managers, private and public sector representatives, the Legislature, Governor's Office, and state, federal, tribal, and local governmental agencies.

4. Demonstrated ability to proactively coordinate programmatic activities with other state agencies with similar goals and mandates.

5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and implementation of directorate-level strategic planning and agency administrative policies and procedures.

6. Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to ensure Commission program products are of high quality.

7. Knowledge of technical and policy matters pertaining to renewable energy and climate change.
