Express employment Professionals is currently recruiting for our Mayville, NY client. We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant.


The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's financial operations through accurate financial reporting, general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing activities. This role ensures financial information is prepared accurately and timely in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.


The Senior Accountant works independently on complex accounting functions, supports audit activities, performs financial analysis, and serves as a resource for other members of the accounting team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation and review of journal entries.
• Analyze financial results and investigate variances, unusual transactions, and account discrepancies.
• Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation.
• Prepare accruals, allocations, and other recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
• Perform cash management activities and bank reconciliations.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions as needed.
• Ensure transactions are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Maintain and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
• Assist with annual financial statement audits and provide required schedules and supporting documentation to external auditors.
• Research and resolve accounting issues while recommending appropriate accounting treatment.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and automation within accounting processes.
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
• Assist the Controller with special projects, financial analysis, budgeting support, and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables, and analysis of large data sets.
• Experience using accounting software and ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across departments.

Preferred

• Experience preparing monthly financial statements.
• Experience supporting external audits.
• Experience with budgeting and financial analysis.
• Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls.
• Experience working in a multi-entity or growing organization.

Compensation and Benefits


Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annually
