Job Full Description

Job Summary


Sets up and operates manual lathes, mills, and machine tools to manufacture, repair, and assemble
metal and non-metallic parts, mechanisms, tools, and equipment. Determines dimensions,
tolerances, machining sequences, and equipment requirements by studying specifications,
blueprints, sketches, sample parts, damaged parts, or descriptions of required components. Must
be able to read and interpret blueprints and independently fabricate parts from raw material,
including bolts, screws, nuts, washers, threaded components, shafts, bushings, spacers, and other
precision-machined parts, ensuring all dimensions, fits, threads, and tolerances meet design and
quality specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials and workpieces.
• Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other shop equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Manufacture components from raw stock including bolts, screws, nuts, washers, bushings, shafts,
spacers, and custom-machined parts.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
• Fit and assemble machined components into complete assemblies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.


Qualifications


Working knowledge of manual machine tools, precision measuring equipment, shop mathematics,
metal properties, thread standards, tolerancing, and blueprint interpretation.


Education and Experience


High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of machinist experience.


Physical Demands


Regular lifting of 60 pounds or more; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
