Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical PCU position requiring 2 years of experience and a 1:3-4 patient ratio in a high-acuity teaching hospital setting.

Details

• Surgical Progressive Care Unit with near-ICU level acuity
• Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow cases
• Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Weekend rotation required every other week, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU levels of care within the hospital or affiliate hospitals nearby
• May be required to provide charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided
• Cerner charting system used

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring and on-unit telemetry
• Experience managing chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, and post-op patient care
• Experience with epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, and IV insulin protocols/titration
• Experience with external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and doppler flap checks
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Care for high-acuity surgical patients requiring close monitoring and specialized post-operative interventions
• Precepting and/or supervising shadowing students may be required as this is a teaching facility
• Floating is 100% required for all travelers within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals; refusal to float may result in contract termination
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional RTO requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this position
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a break period to reset eligibility (3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents)
