Managing Geotechnical EngineerThe managing geotechnical engineer is a senior-level leadership role focused on delivering complex geotechnical solutions across coastal, marine, environmental remediation, and infrastructure projects. This position blends hands-on technical expertise with project leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, and mentorship.This role will support and grow a geotechnical practice working on challenging waterfront development, slope stabilization, foundation systems, and restoration-related engineering projects. The successful candidate will contribute to both project execution and technical excellence, while also engaging in client-facing work and supporting business growth initiatives.This is an opportunity for a technically strong engineer who wants to remain hands-on while progressing into broader leadership responsibilities within a nationally recognized environmental consulting environment.What You'll DoPerform and oversee geotechnical analyses for coastal, waterfront, and environmental remediation projectsSupport design and engineering for slope stabilization, foundation systems, and marine structuresPrepare technical studies, calculations, and engineering reportsDevelop and review design documents, specifications, and cost estimatesProvide technical input on complex geotechnical challenges across multidisciplinary teamsManage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverablesLead task assignments, team coordination, and contractor managementSupport proposal development and participate in scope definitionCoordinate with internal teams and subconsultants across disciplinesDevelop and execute field investigation programs and testing plansSupport construction observation, documentation, and troubleshootingWork across both upland and in-water project environmentsMentor junior engineering staff and provide technical guidanceWhat You BringBachelor's degree in civil engineering (geotechnical focus preferred); master's degree strongly preferred10–12+ years of geotechnical engineering experienceProfessional engineer (PE) license (WA preferred or ability to obtain)Strong experience in geotechnical design, analysis, and construction supportBackground in coastal, marine, environmental, or complex geotechnical projectsProven project management and client interaction experienceStrong communication and technical writing skillPreferred Qualifications (Not Required)Seismic geotechnical experience (highly valued for Pacific Northwest projects)Experience with waterfront development, environmental remediation, or restoration projectsExperience working within multidisciplinary teams (environmental, civil, water resources)Familiarity with Pacific Northwest geotechnical conditionsPrior mentorship or informal leadership experienceWhat You GetCompetitive base salary in the $124K–$158K rangeAnnual bonus plan with eligibility to earn performance-based incentivesComprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) matchRelocation assistance available for qualified candidatesOpportunity to work on high-impact coastal, environmental, and infrastructure projectsExposure to complex, technically challenging geotechnical work (not "cookie-cutter" projects)Clear path toward leadership and expanded responsibilities over timeCollaborative, technically driven work environment with strong mentorship culture
