The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are key responsibilities. The RN is responsible for maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting personal development. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises both licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of a recognized model of care, the RN assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates the plan of care. Focus on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction is essential. The RN applies educational and professional experiences to deliver quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff is also a critical function of the role. Job Responsibilities: Performs assessments and reassessments in line with policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and revises it as needed. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family. Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. Facilitates, coordinates, and provides education specific to patient and family needs during their stay and at discharge. Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel and functions as a mentor/preceptor. Demonstrates and encourages teamwork and communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes. Complies with regulatory standards and participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses communication systems and promotes cost-effective care. Recognizes complex data to determine priorities for care, including physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs. Develops relationships with families to enhance their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Uses multidisciplinary resources for planning care and addresses cultural and ethnic issues. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Reads journals for studies or articles applicable to practice and brings ideas to the staff for assessment of applicability.
