Position Summary

SECCRA is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for landfill operations.

This is a safety-sensitive position for an experienced operator who can do more than run equipment. We are looking for someone with strong heavy equipment skills, good judgment, accountability, initiative, and the ability to help keep daily operations moving without constant direction.

The right person will be able to safely operate heavy equipment, care for the machines, recognize what needs to be done, help organize work in the field, support coworkers, and communicate clearly with supervisors.

This role is ideal for self-motivated individuals who take ownership of their work, work independently with minimal supervision, and demonstrate initiative by remaining productive and actively contributing throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy and light equipment in an active landfill environment
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report concerns promptly
• Help maintain safe traffic flow and site conditions
• Work around trucks, customers, coworkers, slopes, waste material, and changing weather conditions
• Take ownership of assigned work and follow through without repeated reminders
• Identify useful work during downtime and help keep the site clean, safe, and organized
• Assist with daily coordination of field work when assigned
• Help train, coach, or guide less experienced employees when appropriate
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, damage, mistakes, or equipment issues immediately
• Communicate respectfully with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and drivers
• Support general landfill operations when not operating equipment
• Follow site procedures and supervisor direction

Preferred Experience

• Experience with earthmoving and grading using track loaders, dozers, compactors, excavators, or similar equipment
• Landfill, construction, excavation, quarry, municipal, site work, or similar experience
• Experience working around truck traffic, customers, laborers, and other equipment
• Experience helping coordinate work or train other employees
• Strong daily equipment inspection habits
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and site conditions

Requirements

• Significant heavy equipment operating experience
• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable attendance
• Ability to work safely in an active landfill environment
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly
• Ability to perform general site work when not operating equipment
• Ability to work productively without constant supervision
• Ability to pass required pre-employment checks

Title and Compensation

Final title and wage will depend on experience, qualifications, demonstrated skill, judgment, leadership ability, and operational need.

SECCRA accepts NO out-of-state or out-of-SECCRA-region waste - Our internal waste screening process and adherence to county flow control measures ensure that only member waste is disposed at our landfill.


SECCRA serves the solid waste and recycling needs of about 105,000 residents in 24 member boroughs and townships located in the southern third of Chester County. Our member population is currently growing at a rate of five percent per year.
