Communications Support Specialist Closing Date: Open until filled Salary Range: Up to $73,712.00 Since 1789 the Office of the Clerk has served as the official record keeper of the U.S. House of Representatives and supported the institution’s nonpartisan legislative functions. The Office of Communications furthers that mission by providing the Clerk and other nonpartisan House partners with communications strategy, content development, graphic and multimedia design, print and digital production, and related creative services. The Office of Communications seeks a highly organized, adaptable, and collaborative Communications Support Specialist to join its small, cross-functional creative services team. This generalist position is intended for a candidate with demonstrated ability in at least one communications discipline, such as content development, visual communications, or project coordination and client services. The Communications Support Specialist will work with content developers, graphic designers, project managers, and other communications professionals to keep assignments organized, accurate, current, and moving toward completion. Responsibilities will vary based on office needs, available assignments, and the employee’s skills and ability to learn new tools and processes. The position provides broad exposure to the work of the Office of Communications and opportunities to develop additional skills and greater specialization over time. This is a full-time position located onsite in Washington, DC, with some telecommuting benefits. Major Duties Project Coordination. Supports communications projects from intake through completion by gathering information, documenting requirements, coordinating workflow, tracking assignments, maintaining project files, resolving issues, and facilitating timely delivery. Publication Maintenance. Maintains and updates recurring publications, websites, presentations, and other communications products using approved content, established templates, and office processes. Project Support. Provides editorial, design, multimedia, production, and related communications support on quick-turnaround and long-term projects. Production Support. Supports the use and maintenance of shared production equipment, supplies, inventory, work areas, and related resources. File and Asset Management. Organizes and maintains project files, templates, archives, process documents, photographs, video files, and other communications assets. Qualifications Demonstrated professional experience in at least one communications discipline: Research, writing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading Visual communications, file preparation, and print production Photography, video, multimedia production, and digital asset management Project coordination, workflow support, and client services Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, vendors, and senior staff Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities Ability to work independently within established assignments, processes, and quality standards Ability to learn new tools, processes, and subject matter quickly and apply them to unfamiliar assignments Sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and professionalism Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to adapt to new technologies Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, multimedia, public relations, or related field Two years of relevant professional experience Knowledge of or interest in the legislative process and the history and work of the U.S. House of Representatives Applicants should submit materials with the subject line“Communications Support Specialist” to: Michelle Haynes Office of Communications Office of the Clerk U.S. House of Representatives View email address on click.appcast.io Hiring for this position is governed by the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act.
