Medical DirectorThe Medical Director provides leadership and oversight of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, clinical quality, provider education, and professional practice across PPGNY. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, evidence-based care through standardized clinical practices, provider competency, and continuous quality improvement. The Medical Director provides affiliate-wide clinical leadership for Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) and Patient Care Associates (PCAs), establishing standards for clinical practice, education, competency/privileging, and professional development while partnering with the Regional Directors of Clinical Services (RDCSs), Clinical Operations and Medical Leadership to ensure consistent implementation across the organization. Within the assigned region, the Medical Director provides direct clinical leadership and supervision for APCs and oversees the clinical practice of PCAs. As a member of the Medical Leadership Team, the Medical Director collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Regional Medical Directors to advance clinical policies, quality, patient safety and equitable care across the affiliate while maintaining a direct patient care practice. This full-time position is based in Region 1 or Region 2 South and requires up to 20% travel.Direct Patient Care (60%):Provides direct clinical services as needed including but not limited to:Procedural abortion to 14 0/7 weeks' gestation or greaterUltrasonographySexual and reproductive health care including gender affirming careDevelops new areas of competence and expertise, as needed and requested, including procedural abortion to 20 weeks gestation or greater and vasectomy.Clinical Leadership/Administrative duties (15%):Provides affiliate-wide clinical leadership for Advanced Practice Clinicians (APC) and Patient Care Associates (PCA); establishes and oversees affiliate-wide systems to ensure APCs and PCAs receive the supervision and professional development necessary to deliver consistently high-quality and person-centered care.Develops and implements systems, processes and performance measures to set practice standards for and to support standardized quality improvement and professional development of APCs and PCAs affiliate-wide.Supervises, mentors and develops the Regional Directors of Clinical Services (RDCS); serves as primary liaison between these managers and leaders in Medical Services and Clinical Operations.Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of affiliate-wide systems for APC and PCA onboarding, training and performance monitoring; leads, oversees and collaborates with RDCSs in affiliate-wide APC training, proctoring and privileging, continuing education and clinical mentorship; provides clinical leadership for affiliate-wide PCA training, competency assessment, and clinical supervision of PCAs in partnership with Clinical Operations and RDCSs.Provides clinical oversight of APC practice, including privileging, competency assessment, performance evaluation and corrective action planning, partnering with RDCSs on day-to-day management and performance issues as appropriate.Oversees and leads the recruitment and onboarding of APCs; partners with Clinical Operations and Human Resources in the recruitment and onboarding of PCAs; develops and implements strategies to recruit, engage, develop and retain high-performing APCs and PCAs in collaboration with RDCSs, Clinical Operations, Human Resources and Medical Leadership.Collaborates with Medical Leadership and Clinical Operations on the development and implementation of clinical services, competency standards, provider education, policies and guidelines affiliate-wide.Participates in updates to and implementation of the PPGNY Medical Standards and Guidelines.Establishes and maintains relationships within the local medical community, including maintaining referral lists.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervision, Consultation (10%):Provides clinical consultation and mentorship to RDCSs and other PPGNY clinicians (physicians, APCs) affiliate-wide.Holds collaborative and supervisory agreements with APCs per regulatory guidelines and performs required chart audits.Acts as physician back-up for PPGNY nurses and APCs taking after-hours call.Oversees onboarding, competency assessment, training, proctoring and privileging, chart review and performance evaluation for Region 1 and 2 South APCs while establishing affiliate-wide standards for these practices.Supervises other staff as applicable.Training (5%):Establishes standardized training curricula, competency requirements, and clinical education programs for APCs and PCAs, partnering with RDCSs, Clinical Operations, and Medical Leadership to ensure consistent implementation across the affiliate.Develops, delivers, and participates in the training and education of physicians, APCs, nurses, residents, fellows and other clinical staff, as appropriate.Quality Improvement (5%):Works with the Chief Medical Officer and the Senior Director of Quality to develop and oversee systems to ensure superior patient experience and clinical quality improvement in PPGNY SRH care.Drives implementation of practice changes based on audit findings, review of incidents and quality indicators.Collaborates with Compliance and Quality teams to foster continuous practice improvement.Participates in quality assurance activities, including debriefings, root cause analyses and peer reviews.Monitors affiliate-wide APC clinical quality, competency and practice variation; implements improvement initiatives to promote consistent, evidence-based care.Program Directorship (5%):Ensures standardized implementation of specialty clinical programs across all regions, including provider education, competency, quality monitoring, and evidence-based practice.Serves as Program Director for the following clinical services:Sexual DysfunctionVasectomyOther programs as assignedAssumes responsibility for the supervision of the clinical services listed above including:Develops and updates PPGNY protocols for the services in accordance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Manual of Medical Standards & GuidelinesOversees the training, education, supervision, proctoring and ongoing monitoring of health center staff in the servicesProvides consultation as needed related to the servicesGrants clinical privileges relevant to the servicesParticipates in quality activities related to the servicesDesignates staff to assist in the performance of these responsibilities.Core competencies:· A demonstrated commitment to PPGNY's mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice.· A demonstrated commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and its impact on healthcare systems.· Strong relationship building and communication skills, including an ability to work and build trust across cultural differences related to race, class, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin or ability;
