Power Systems Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

• Analyze transmission network data including parameters related to transmission lines and generation units.
• Develop and maintain accurate power system network models used for grid operations and market analysis.
• Work with power system analysis tools such as Energy Management System (EMS) models and power flow software.
• Support updates and modifications to the Network Operations Model through model change requests.
• Coordinate with different teams such as system operations, planning, metering, and client services for data exchange and modeling requirements.
• Collaborate with working groups to maintain and update transmission network data.
• Create and use data mining techniques to generate compliance reports and validate model accuracy.
• Review and implement improvements to modeling processes and integrate new technologies.
• Support updates and upgrades of modeling applications and tools used in network modeling.
• Review contingencies, outages, and protection systems that may impact network models.
• Prepare documentation, procedures, and training materials related to modeling processes.
• Train and support junior engineers or engineering development program members.
• Develop queries and tools to maintain data integrity and improve modeling workflows.

Skills:

• Power Systems Analysis (Transmission networks, generation modeling, grid operations)
• Power Flow Analysis Tools (EMS power flow, planning models)
• Electric Grid Market Concepts such as Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP)
• Database Querying (SQL or similar querying tools)
• Data Analysis and Data Mining Techniques
• Transmission Network Modeling Tools
• Understanding of Protection Systems and Contingency Analysis
• Energy Management Systems (EMS)
• Model validation and data integrity techniques
• Technical documentation and reporting tools

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's.
