Cafeteria Worker

Purpose : To prepare and serve safe, healthy meals to our students and staff. To maintain food service facilities and equipment in a neat, clean, safe and sanitary condition.



Brief Description: A food service worker's responsibilities include a wide range of tasks that keep the kitchen running smoothly, from cooking to cleaning and to adhering to all food safety regulations.



Reports to: Immediate supervisor. (Manager first if manager not available than assistant manager)


Job Requirements:

1. Skills:

1. Follow established recipes to prepare menu items - weigh and measure ingredients
2. Maintain accurate records- document daily food items used and what was left
3. Basic math
4. Excellent communication skills

1. Knowledge:

1. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations
2. Comply with department dress code
3. Satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
4. Complete required local and TDA training annually

1. Ability:

1. To work well with others
2. To react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
3. To appropriately operate and clean all equipment as required
4. To have all food items completed in a timely manner as to meet scheduled demands
5. To serve customers in a fast, efficient and friendly manner
6. To serve correct portion sizes
7. To follow guidelines to ensure correct serving temperatures

1. Physical Requirements:

1. Requires the ability to stand for long periods
2. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, kneel and reach
3. Requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects up to 50 pounds
4. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environment

1. Essential Functions/Responsibilities

1. Following standard recipes help prepare meals
2. Help put away groceries in the freezer and storeroom, date, organize and rotate making sure that we are using oldest product first.
3. Make sure between classes you have plenty of food prepared for the next group - batch cook when possible
4. Maintain a clean work- station (tables and legs, walls etc.)
5. Be responsible for cleaning equipment used by you ( carts, bun pan racks, slicer etc.)
6. Serve students during lunch
7. Help sweep and mop dining area

1. Perform related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of Gilmer ISD Food Service Department
