The Position

Bargaining Unit: Management - Mgmt Classes, Classified & Exempt Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, District 4

In just four years in office, Supervisor Carlson has worked to secure additional funding for Animal Services, completed the first-of-its-kind LGBTQIA+ Service Assessment, invested $5 million into a District IV Youth Center, fully allocated $1 million of Community Impact Funds, supported the Federal Glover Wellness Center and secured funding for the Services and Access for Everyone (SAFE) Center.

As a former Concord Police officer and the first openly gay member of the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Carlson has a deep understanding of the challenges our community faces and works to foster collaboration across District IV, Contra Costa County and the Bay Area.

What you will typically be responsible for:

• Staffing the Supervisor at in-person events, meetings and hearings. Including but not limited to regional bodies that the Supervisor is appointed to.
• Tracking and understanding legislation at the State and Federal level
• Attending events and meetings on behalf of the County Supervisor that may require periodic night and weekend attendance.
• Tracking and staying informed on key issues within your assigned area
• Responding to constituent inquiries and issues in areas assigned
• Any other duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor and/or Chief of Staff

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a valid driver's license may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position. Education: Possession of an Associates' degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, business, communications, management, political science, economics, psychology, sociology, social science or closely related field, or successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university. Substitution for Education: Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required education. Experience: One (1) year of experience serving as a member of a Board of Supervisors, or three (3) years of experience in a public or private agency which involved sensitive public issues and exposure to policy and/or budget review and interpretation. Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working in a public agency (particularly an elected office)
• Political and Organizational Savvy – working skillfully with politics, procedures and protocols across organizational levels.
• Legislative Analysis – researching, tracking and interpreting
• Integrity and Approachability – demonstrating good character, honesty, personal accountability and the ability to build and maintain long-term professional relationships.
• Understanding of the operational and political dynamics of governance at a regional level.

CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
