Utility Technician Trainee

Utility Technician – Aqua The Utility Technician performs a variety of day‑to‑day duties associated with the repair and upgrade of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, customer service issues, and housekeeping at water and wastewater facilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Perform semi‑skilled installation, maintenance and repair of valves, meters, gauges, pumps, and associated equipment used in water distribution or wastewater collection systems using hand and power tools. Operate and perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, digging, trenching equipment, and other equipment in accordance with company procedures and operating standards. Load and unload various equipment, chemicals and supplies at worksites and storage areas. Operate medium construction equipment under the supervision of a qualified operator. Adhere to all safety and security operating policies, procedures, practices and standards to ensure a safe working environment. Perform ground keeping and custodial work as assigned. Resolve routine problems and notify management of issues outside scope of responsibility. Read meters as needed. Update and maintain documentation of work activities, including closing work orders as needed in the system. Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED. No previous experience required; mechanical or electrical experience preferred. Valid U.S. driver’s license. CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) permit must be attained within 90 days of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Familiarity with computers and work systems such as Microsoft Office suite. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effectively communicate clearly, concisely and professionally with customers and internal staff. Strong customer service skills. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi‑tasking environment. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
