POSITION REPORTS TO: Principal

PAY GRADE: T-2

FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD: 192 days Develops and implements a guidance program which assists the students in making effective adjustments to the world in which they live. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Master's Degree. Type C Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Certification as a school counselor. Additional criteria as established by the School Board. EXPERIENCE - Three years of successful school experience. Duties and Responsibilities Provides individual counseling services. Provides group counseling. Arranges for yearly class scheduling, schedule verification and schedule changes, as necessary. Provides the following types of information as necessary: Curriculum offerings Number of credits earned and/or those necessary for graduation Graduation requirements Scholarship information Vocational programs, technical schools, colleges and universities Adult education programs, BOSS program, Youth Challenge, GED program at LA Technical College, Job Corps, AmeriCorps, Military Develops a comprehensive program of vocational guidance based on current philosophies and needs of children. Continues the comprehensive programs of vocational guidance based on the guidelines of the Career Options Law. Announces job opportunities on behalf of prospective employees if contacted. Holds conferences with parents, teachers, administrators and/or community agencies. Maintains an up-to-date file of community referral agencies. Plans and presents orientation programs which are designed to inform students about available guidance services. Re-evaluates and updates guidance services on an ongoing basis. Plans and conducts program evaluations for the counseling services. Coordinates all testing. Participates in 504 and IEP meetings for students with special needs as needed. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork through the school system. Performs other services as required. Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports: Instructional Components Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions Lesson Plans Instruction Collaborate with colleagues and departments Grade papers Take and record attendance Enter/Average grades Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher Supervision Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned Supervision of students in the classroom Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned Non-instructional Components Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings Attend training sessions Attend IEP meetings Attend parent-teacher conferences Attend back-to-school and open-house events Attend graduation Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request Extracurricular Activities Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor NOTE: This job description is a summary of the primary duties and responsibilities of the position.
