Job Title
This is a Non-Exempt, Full-Time non-bargaining position based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly range of $42.18 - $49.76.
This position will work out of the Utilities Building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

Job Summary
This is skilled journeyman level work in the construction, maintenance, extension and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission lines and sub-stations in accordance with standard trade practices. Employees frequently work at heights with high tension lines under unfavorable weather conditions. Work is usually performed under the supervision of a Line Foreman; however, employees may be assigned to emergency trouble spots, in which case they work independently or with a subordinate. Work is subject to inspection by a Line foreman while in progress and upon completion for quality and adherence to safety precautions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized high school or possession of a recognized equivalent certification.
- Completion of a satisfactory apprenticeship as an Apprentice Lineman in the erection, maintenance, extension and repair of overhead and underground electrical line systems, or any combination of training and experience.
- Possession of a valid State of Florida CDL class license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used for line construction and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the principles of electric theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply to work problems.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of necessary safety precautions.
- Knowledge of first aid, including AED, and CPR.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to climb poles and work at moderate heights to handle high voltage wires exercising proper safety precautions while performing all phases of Lineman's work.
- Should be able to perform Pole Top Rescue
- Skill in the use and care of line tools and testing equipment.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.
- Climbs poles to repair, replace or construct power lines, lightning arrestors, insulators, transformers, street lights, capacitor banks, switches, circuit breakers, cross arms, graces, guys and related overhead and underground distribution and transmission equipment.
- Monitors electrical loads and circuits by use of ammeters, altimeters, ohmmeters, and related testing equipment; splices cable, replaces fuses and locates and clears short circuits and other sources of power failure; adjusts increase or decrease voltage.
- Uses hot sticks, switch sticks, fuse pullers, rubber gloves and other safety equipment to repair energized and de-energized lines and circuits.
- Digs pole holes, assists in raising and setting poles, uses hand and power tools in transporting and handling poles
- Performs heavy manual labor
- Answers emergency calls and makes or assist in making necessary repairs
- Operates bucket, winch and pole derrick trucks as required.
- Handles a variety of emergency problems during and after storms; sets meters, makes load checks and provides other customer services as required. Supervises crew when Foreman is absent,
- Performs related work as required, including Substation Electrician work.
Physical Requirements
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds). May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
Environmental Requirements
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.
Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
