Scope of Work:

The Structural Engineer will design, analyze, and review structural components for commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on roadways, bridges, and commercial and educational facilities. This role requires strong technical expertise, effective communication, and collaboration across TWG Engineering’s multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on design experience with the ability to manage project deliverables from concept through completion.

The Structural Engineer will contribute to reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting field visits to verify design intent and support project execution.

This position is ideal for someone with a passion for engineering, strong technical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality design work on real-world projects.

This position will sit at either our Shorewood, IL or Mattoon, IL office.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Analyze, model, and design steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures, including roadways and bridges.
• Develop detailed drawings, blueprints, plans, and specifications in coordination with CAD and BIM staff.
• Review and approve structural calculations, submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including IBC, ACI, and AISC.
• Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and clients to deliver coordinated and buildable solutions.
• Conduct field visits, site inspections, and assessments to support design assumptions and verify construction progress.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Review and respond to technical inquiries and RFIs during project development and construction.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design files, calculations, revisions, and communications.
• Complies with established company work rules, policies, and procedures.
• Actively engages with other members of the company to continuously strive to improve processes, create efficiencies, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
• Cooperatively takes on other duties, roles, or responsibilities, as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to read Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM environment) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Working knowledge of Microstation /Geopak and Open Roads Designer software.
• Knowledge of Illinois Department of Transportation specifications, policies, and 
  procedures.
• Strong experience with structural analysis and modeling software such as SAP2000 and CSIBridge.
• Comprehensive understanding of building codes and engineering standards, including IBC, ACI, and AISC.
• Strong fundamentals in mathematics, physics, material science, and construction methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and critical-thinking abilities with strong attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative mindset with proven success working in multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
• Illinois Structural Engineer (SE) license required, PE license a plus.
• Illinois Department of Transportation certification preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in structural engineering design, analysis, and project delivery.
• Demonstrated capability in developing design packages, schematics, and construction-ready documents.
• Experience supporting projects from conceptual design through construction completion.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
• Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to occasionally travel to job sites.

Good Faith Salary Range: The annual starting salary for this position is between $120,000 to $150,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
