English Teacher

Full-time high school teaching position. Minimum required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree or meets minimum requirements to be eligible for an Educator License with Stipulations (ESL) Endorsement. A valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) for grades 9-12 Endorsement: English Language Arts (Grades 9-12) is required. Desired qualifications include a Master's Degree and/or Doctorate Degree, previous high school teaching experience, certified ESL, High School or Bilingual Certification, Bilingual Endorsement (grades 9-12), ESL Endorsement (grades 9-12), Special Education Endorsement (LBS1), and Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Essential duties and responsibilities include instructional competencies such as teaching to prescribed outcomes and goals, utilizing best practices of standards-based learning, designing and implementing coherent and rigorous instruction, involving students in learning using research-based differentiation practices and educational technology, providing appropriate remedial and/or enrichment material, differentiating for students with special needs, language needs, or different learning styles, promoting student success through clear expectations for learning and coursework, timely responses, and regular feedback, assigning and evaluating student work that leads to mastery of standards, tracking, monitoring, and posting student progress on a weekly basis using the district SIS system, communicating regularly with parents, students, counselors, and support staff and documenting using the district student information system (SIS) system, being clear in explanations and directions to ensure student understanding, speaking clearly, audibly, and fluently to ensure student understanding, establishing a positive and safe, student-centered learning environment, regularly revising lesson plans based on formative and summative assessment data to differentiate instruction and guide student learning, addressing different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials, being creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials, demonstrating command of assigned content areas and enthusiasm for teaching the subject matter, exhibiting knowledge of contemporary instructional research related to assigned content areas and to the teaching of diverse students, and classroom management competencies such as developing, communicating, and enforcing a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes, monitoring and correcting student behavior to maximize student learning in a positive and safe learning environment, responding to behavioral infractions quickly and in a professional manner, documenting behavioral infractions using the district SIS system, using effective methods to manage student behavior and classroom materials, reinforcing/rewarding appropriate social and academic behavior, ensuring appropriate use and care of required classroom materials and equipment available, interacting with students in ways that are respectful and friendly and reflect an understanding of cultural differences, engaging in ongoing collaboration with colleagues on curriculum, instruction, pacing, and assessments, participating in review and updating of curricular programs, performing promptly the responsibilities stipulated in Board of Education policies and administrative procedures, adhering to all personal absences procedures and providing appropriate plans and materials for use by the substitute, exemplifying the district's mission and vision, being punctual in arrival times to the building, to classes, and to meetings, supporting progress of achieving goals outlined in the Strategic Plan, promptly reporting student behavior, attendance, and academic performance to parents/guardians and when necessary, referring students to appropriate school personnel; documenting using the district SIS system, implementing "future focus area" recommendations made in the evaluation and supervisory process, cooperating with other educational personnel and administration, modeling and enforcing classroom and school rules, policies, and procedures, reflecting on professional practice and making necessary adjustments to ensure student success, attending each workday, recording final course grades in the district SIS system according to the district-provided dates and deadlines, and understanding and using a range of technologies that effectively support student learning and communication, while modeling legal and safe behavior related to technology use.
