Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Orthopedics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Experience in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical care; 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred Description: This position is for an RN in an orthopedic unit. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on 12-hour days and 1:5-6 on 12-hour nights. The unit has a total of 43 private rooms. Common diagnoses include a wide variety of medical-surgical and postoperative orthopedic cases, as well as trauma cases with fractures. There is a primary charge RN on each shift with a house supervisor available 24/7. Patient care technicians are present, with a ratio of 1:7-8. The unit utilizes CPAP and heated high flow as needed, with RNs troubleshooting equipment. Telemetry monitors are used, and RNs are expected to read their own strips. Travel nurses may float to other similar medical-surgical floors if necessary. The dress code requires any color of scrubs, and a professional appearance is essential; tattoos and piercings must be covered. Mandatory weekends include every other weekend, with shifts rotating between day and night. There is no call or standby requirement for this position.
