Essential Functions Administers first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatments under direction of a certified school nurse. Administers mandated screenings (vision, dental, hearing, back/scoliosis). Assesses safety and health related situations to identify problems, refer for proper treatment and comply with legal requirements. Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and public agencies for student health services. Conducts age‑appropriate health education programs in conjunction with classroom curriculum. Implements health‑care plans for students with chronic health problems. Maintains contact with parents/guardians regarding changes in student health and recommends further intervention. Maintains student confidential files and records per legal requirements. Monitors students with chronic illnesses to assist them in achieving the highest functional level. Monitors students referred for illness or injury to address immediate health‑care concerns and initiate follow‑up care. Participates in meetings to share information on student health needs, service delivery, and educational programs. Prepares documentation such as health history and immunization reports for written support and compliance. Provides training or orientation on health‑related subjects such as disaster preparedness, medication management, and substance abuse. Refers students requiring additional medical attention for follow‑up treatment and services. Reports health and safety issues to administrator and appropriate agencies. Responds to emergency medical situations to ensure appropriate immediate medical attention. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the unit. Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications Practical Nurse license and valid Washington State driver’s license. CPR/First Aid certificate. DOH certificate. Valid background clearance from Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprints. Experience in school‑sponsored health services preferred. Community‑college or vocational‑school degree, or relevant vocational training; must meet certificate and license needs for CEUs. Strong communication, confidentiality, and problem‑solving skills. Work Environment Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; fine finger dexterity; 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing. Exposure to risk of injury and illness.
