Fitness Instructor

What You’ll Do The City of Cortez is hiring a part-time Fitness Instructor to help deliver safe, engaging group fitness opportunities for our community. This role supports a strong recreation and fitness program by leading classes, helping participants progress, and maintaining a positive, inclusive class environment. Key responsibilities include: Teach and assist group fitness classes for varied skill levels Coordinate class offerings with the Recreation Coordinator to support a balanced schedule Help prevent and respond to incidents that may create unsafe conditions Complete physical setup/teardown, equipment care, and related preparation Required qualifications/skills: At least 18 years old; valid Colorado Driver’s License CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical duties Strong oral and written communication; works well with others Provided Benefits This part-time position includes sick leave. A Typical Shift You’ll arrive early to get the studio ready, check the day’s roster, and connect with participants as they come in—first-timers and regulars alike. Between classes, you’ll reset equipment, note any supply or maintenance needs, and touch base with your supervisor about upcoming offerings so the program stays well-rounded. During sessions, you’ll stay alert to the room’s energy and pacing, making quick adjustments so participants feel supported.
