Direct Counsel is working with a longstanding California litigation boutique firm with a strong insurance defense and trial practice. They handle sophisticated, high-exposure matters for major insurance carriers and other institutional clients, including insurance coverage/bad faith, construction defect, catastrophic injury, products liability, and complex business litigation. It has the resources and caliber of matters you'd expect from a larger practice, but with a more personal, boutique environment. 

About the Role

The firm is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with relevant experience in civil defense litigation . The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, a strong communicator, and has a desire for professional growth. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage case files involving general liability, catastrophic injury, construction, and insurance-related matters.

• Conduct thorough legal research, draft pleadings, memos, motions, discovery requests and responses, and prepare case evaluations and reports.

• Participate in litigation, including depositions, mediations, settlement negotiations, arbitrations, appearing in court for hearings and trials

• Communicate clearly both orally and in writing

• Collaborate with partners, clients, experts, and support staff to develop case strategies and ensure effective representation.

Qualifications

• Active California State Bar membership in good standing

• J.D. from an accredited law school

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-service-driven law firm setting

• Strong writing, drafting, and strong attention to detail

• Ability to balance independent responsibility with teamwork and collaboration

• Desire for professional growth
